So I did a spoof on the old Godzilla poster... I thought it was fun :D
The text was all Babelfished, so it's probably really poorly translated but that's fine by me.

I've been missing
Here's a smattering of stuff I've been working on. I haven't updated this bad boy in a year... That's sort of sad. I've been really busy with school right now, so I apologize to all two of the people that sometimes check this.
This is a character from this idea I have for a fighting game. I call her Fia, she's sort of a Bruce Lee analogue in terms of her fighting style. MisterNefarious, by the way, is me.
That's me! And the gang! Zoinks! Daphne wants me.
An environment concept I did. I hope it's self explanatory enough, but I dunno...
Check my NefWorks blog at the end of the week, it will be my new online portfolio. This will be less formal. Less professional. I will swear here.
Fuck.

Visual Response to Music
I elected to do the song Fluorescent Adolescent by the Arctic Monkeys.
The song is about a girl who has left behind a promiscuous and exciting past for a drab and bleak existence. I ran into some challenges when completing the background and wound up going for an entirely orange background, instead of my original concept.. I think it contrasts nicely with the brown and creates an analogous color scheme with the pinks and yellows.
The lightning bolts, highlights and roses in her hair, as well as the low backed dress are used to symbolize the exciting and seductive life she has left behind her as it's fading away.
Gouache watercolor and sharpie on watercolor paper. Measurements are roughly 10 by 12 or something like that.
Image is not downloadable, as this is a photo of the work. It is also for sale. Should you want to buy it, I will more finely trim the edges (They are a little crooked)

Some new work from school
Assignment: Surrealism and balance. Words I chose to use as a theme were bugs, umbrellas and mutilation. Done in copic water-proof pen and copic manga markers. Demonstrating asymmetrical balance.
Same assignment displaying crystallographic balance.
Same assignment, radial balance.
Same assignment, symmetrical balance.
Optical Art excercise inspired by the work of Bridget Riley. Used to demonstrate focal point. Design was designed specifically by the way that the synapses in the brain recieve and interperet color.
Stencil regarding a socio-political issue, here the institutionalised racism directed at Mexicans and Americans of Mexican descent. This is apparently going to be printed on a T shirt. The designs on the serape and sombrero are intended to evoke thoughts of Captain America or Uncle Sam.
My scanner isn't big enough for some of my pieces, so please bear with their quality or absence as applicable.

Atlas' Redesign
New Atlas
Old AtlasI've redesigned Atlas. I removed the armor chunks (Shoulder pads, fore arms and shins), added some fingerless gloves and a mask that allows us to see his face. I have too many characters whose faces are COMPLETELY obscured. As much as I hate to change characters I love, this was definitely the right thing to do. I may add the shin guards back, but I'm not sure.

A few more
Bill wade, in costume. I really like it, but I want to color it so that you can see the design of the costume. Here it mostly looks naked. I guess it is a superhero costume, and he's likely to look naked anyway... But still...
An image for the book I'm doing. The chick in the cauldron was supposed to be bigger, and I drew the head without redrawing the neck region, and now the neck's just too damned long. I will fix it in a final draft.
Whiplash in costume, but I was going to go for the same style as the drawing of Bill, and the head is totally the wrong size for it, and the pose isn't dynamic enough. I may not finish this one and may redo it.
Quick sketch of Bill Wade out of costume, with a bottle of whiskey and a #1 Grandma mug!!!
Quick sketch of Whiplash out of costume, Chaz Armstrong. He used to be fat, so his clothes are entirely too baggy.I'm thinking about making it obvious that he is the "fat funny guy" by maybe making his clothes not cool at all... Polo with a pocket protector or something... It just doesn't read the same when it's baggy. Any ideas on how to achieve this would be appreciated.

This is how you know I love you...
A few more doodles for my whopping 2 regular visitors.
A full body shot of Rennek's as-of-yet unnamed dodgeball coach. His close hand looks wonky, but I like it otherwise.
Bleedphar the soulcrusher. He is a wrestler. From space. I want him to be an assassin also, but I need to overhaul the design a bit. It can read wrestler, but it sure as hell doesn't read deadly. Work to be done!
And here are some sketches for Sever, the Silver Whirlwind. He is a cyborg samurai type character. His race had consumed all of their planets natural resources, so instead of dying out or spreading to other planets, they removed their ability to procreate and necessity for food and water by becoming almost entirely robotic.

EGADS! A POST!
To the whopping 3 people who may check my Sketchblog, ready your thunderous applause! I have actually.... *dramatic pause* DRAWN STUFF!
Here we have Slayer. Before I go on, yes, I know that his arm makes him look like he is prancing instead of lunging or what-have-you. I will fix it. I was trying to practice anatomy and dynamic posing. He is a Stelken hit-man, thief, and all around bad freaking guy. That gigantic mechanical arm he has has shield panels, a rocket booster in the elbow, a mini-gun under the arm, spikes in the fingers, a blade up the wrist and the hand can detach on a chain. His mechanical eyes have neat gizmos in them, and his mask (when engaged) can help him survive in the vaccuum of space.
Orem Dia, Stelken holy man. He's sort of... The Battle-Pope in training. He has a sordid history, and is currently on a pilgramage to reclaim his previous status so that he may take his place within the Galactic Senate.
I was unsatisfied with that old drawing of Tak Tak's brother. It was flavorless, and I was trying to be Jack Kirby so hard it made me realise that I suck. So I redesigned him. He has a new color scheme, weapons, and attitude. For a short fat chicken canary bear, he's scary. The knee and belly armor pieces need something, but I may just add some scratches to them and keep it simple, as he's complicated enough already (Mostly due to the markings on his head and chest)
As always, feedback is appreciated with the exception of Slayer's arm.

So I finally get around to it...
I haven't updated this thing in forever. Truthfully, I haven't been drawing as much as I know I should... But here's a few doodles!

The crew of the boundless destiny. I wanted one of them on one sheet. This is the first time I've posted an image of Warhowl's dust blade. I was planning on doing the hand guard segment of it later, but I think the crew look good.
A new image of the Cheetah. I did a LOT more work on his legs. They look more industrial now, which I suppose I like better. He doesn't look quite as fast, but I want his speed to seem more about power than grace, which will compliment Whiplash well.
A giant werewolfish Quetza pouncing Warhowl. I thought about having Tak Tak hiding this dark secret, where he was once a genetecist working to improve his race... The result was a bloodthirsty giant with sort of a hard on for murdering Tak Tak.
A race of traders. Their affections are easily bought with shiny baubles. I wanted to give myself an idea for what they would look like. I like the body, but the face blows. More work will follow.
A quick pen sketch for a fighting pose for Bill Wade. Nothing special.
Same idea here. I do little basic sketches of characters to make sure I like the shape and costume before I waste time on something bigger...
So the previous two are of Osmond. He is a polar bear wandering the desert looking for a serial killer. He has canteens and gourds everywhere. I figure, he's a polar bear and deserts are hot. So he is constantly drinking and sweating. I need to make him feel more western, but I like his design a lot. Don't expect big changes. He carries a chainsaw sword.
And we end with the killer. This is Dio, a Sun Bear. He is maybe taller than he should be, but I think I'm going to go for an Akuma vibe with him, so I may leave his height as is. This is my first crack at him, no sketches before hand. All said and done, I think his tats are cool and the Shredder glove is cool.
As always, feedback is appreciated.

A few sketches before I leave town.
A butler... With a script... On a pillow... Very hush hush...
A principal scolding a kid... Very hush hush as well... And heinously tall... Will have to fix
A while back I posted a drawing of a character named Rath... It was pretty pathetic, but I really had no idea what I really wanted to do with his physiology or costuming. This is much more what I'm leaning towards for the final. I freakin LOVE his shoulder pad. Not yet entirely sure what I will do with the belt, but I think this is a great starting point. Comments?
The original idea behind Warhowl was that he was going to be a cadet in the Black Hole Batallion, which was to be my idea of the Green Lantern Corps or the Nova Corps (Two of my favorite comics). I still wanted to keep the idea, but let's face it... That shit was half baked. This guy up here is called Sunshot, and he will be a character I am going to look to develop as a cadet in whatever replaces my old half baked idea. He has discs on his gloves that absorb solar energy and shoot it through his palm. As a contingency, he will carry a laser pistol as well.
A villain for the space corps guys things... This is Despair. I have no idea what he can do, or why he is evil. I was having this killer "I think I'm gonna die" migraine, which caused me to lay down and I saw this guy in a nightmare... So I drew him. I plan to develop him further in the future, but I like the costume and he also wears this giant cloak with a huge fuzzy collar... He's like a metro-egyptian alien despot. Rad.
Boring character. Won't use. Lame. Waste of time, but it's here for the sake of blog completion.
A revamped design for my boy Hussla Haula. His gun is down there on the bottom. one end is a shotgun, and the grip in the middle rotates on bearings. When it rotates, the other end has a rifle barrel that stretches out, and a scope pops out of the top, with the shotgun still sticking behind to protect against sneak attackers. Hussla be tricky.
The brother of Tak Tak Meju, Nyet Meju. He is a space pirate. I will be modifying the costume a little bit to be more Jack Kirby, but this is my starting point. I dig it.
Another shot at Mercenary Kael. I decided to make him a little more stocky, and I'm adding a keen little Jack Kirby "Circle and line" motif. If you read old school space comics (New gods, silver surfer, eternals, etc.) you know Kirby's fixation on circles and lines. I adore it.
Don't you know who I am?I'm the Jugganaut!...
Bitch.
