A few more unfinished pieces.

A girl digging a hole. I really really like this one, though I'd like to make the shovel look nicer. The final draft will have a pile of dirt behind her, and maybe a big cartoony sweat bead on her forehead.

An old lady Skiing! I think I need to work on the ski's and the pants a bit more, but it's coming along nicely I think

A newer drawing of The Abyss. His close leg looks funky, upon closer inspection... I will have to fix that. The rest of it is sick though, huh?!?!?

We're gonna do something I call a compliment sandwich...

Begin and end with something nice.

It seems like a lot of people don't like my blog. I put up too many lousy sketches and nothing is colored.

Cry moar. Somebody call the waaaaaaambulance. Waaa. I like sketching damnit. Anyways, I'm trying to do my best to take myself more seriously and actually develop my sketches and half baked ideas into fully baked ideas.

A fully baked idea. I'm working to further integrate the appropriate ratio of western/eastern into my grizzly Joe thing. So here I gave him a tattered poncho and a gunslinger belt. It works way better. I like this, and I fully intend on finishing it. YES! WITH COLOR EVEN!
If any colorists out there want to stab at it for fun, please do. I'd love to see it.

I really hated those old sketches I did of Teddybomb. I spell it with a B now. I am working to design him in a way that makes him less... Shitty. So here I like the one on the lower left and far right (With the WHUMP onomotopoeia). I think they would look great in a high contrast, heavily saturated cartoon look.

An old sketch (suck it) that I found. Jason drew a face. He threw it a way. I garbage dug it and turned it into a sasquatch. Sorry for your name being on there Chris. But you guys shouldn't draw on my sketches.

Same as before. My first stabs at new TB sketches. The lower left is adorable.

Just for fun, real life Teddybomb and Grizzly Joe.

Pardon the washed out look here. It's still in light pencil stage. This is (hopefully) going to be published in a book some time soon. It's obviously unfinished, as evident by dad's missing hand, but I had never EVER done a real environment before, I think this will turn out well when I'm done.

Input is always appreciated.

Living It Up

Hope you like it, dude! Took me forever getting this scanner working!

I'm From The Streets!

I followed some graf art tutorials and here's what I came up with. Letter studies below.

Bringin' it to you old school...

I found some old stuff that I never put up on here. Thought the page could use some color anyway...

Anybody out there have a copy of photoshop for me? I want to color stuff on a more regular basis.

Background image pilfered from someone else. Picture photoshopped over photograph of myself. Not seen: Evan behind me running a sword through me. Someday when I have a working copy of photoshop, I will finish it.

Myself, skanking. It's fun... Not like I wear jeans or anything, but I think I owned some back when I made this.

My friends band, CIO. I hope some day these dweebs get into a damned studio so I can hear them clearly, because they've got some sweet potential. This is old, but it was a lot of fun to mess around with... Real quick project, mostly for experience.

Let the damn cows moo...

So I've been practicing a little at work, trying to get form and perspective down. Please pardon the majority of these, as most of them are as long as my index finger maximum.

Frankenstein in daisy dukes at the beach. I'm going to blow this up and make a big inked piece out of it. I love it. Considering it's size, I certainly hope you do too.

The Abyss. A medieval themed super-villain. He's a shadowmancer who once fought on the side of good by the grace of god yadda yadda. Until he was taken hostage and tortured by a super villain also fighting in the name of God. As a crusader. As Nietzsche would say "If you stare long enough into the abyss, the abyss stares also into you..." A hero truly corrupted by the evil he fights, only to become even more villainous than The Judge.

In case you think I dropped the So Long Davey project, here is a sketch for the idea of the drummer. I thought the pose was dynamic and fun. Seemed to match him, at least based on the photos I've seen and what I've been told.

Good Old Captain A-Head. The Old Soldier is one of my favorite super heroes, and I felt the need to draw him in all of his flag waving splendor.

My idea for the So Long Davey logo to go in the corner of my album idea. I like graf feel, and since I haven't done graffiti before, I am proud of how it came out.

Atlas. A sketch I did in pen with no reference on hand. I am super proud of it, and I think that The Last Titan couldn't look too much radder. Edward got me thinking, so I'm playing with his color scheme just a little. I just realized that I left his logo off his chest, I'll have to remember to put it on...

Practicing perspective on a drawing of El Esqueleto. Mostly working on guns. The pose felt good, but the sketch came out all disproportioned.

Old idea for a kind of SatAm feel Johnny Rage. I dunno, it's ok. I mostly only like it because the only other times I've drawn him without his mask he looked too old.

Tak Tak Meju, chief engineer aboard the Boundless Destiny... He's kind of an OwlBear thing. The young of his species are abandoned at birth, and rarely survive. As such, he has not met one of his own kind. He built the Boundless Destiny, but he is a lousy pilot.
An idea for a Whiplash cover. Again, practicing perspective.

Idea for the SLD cover concept. The poses have changed on the drummer and guitarist. Intended alignment lower left hand corner.

Concept sketch for Xam Zere (Name tentative. Might use it for a planet instead). Captain of The Darkest Days, and trained assassin/body guard much as Motsche Tsuhai.

The final SLD character sketch. Guitarist. A few changes will be made to the final. You can also see Wolverine, Spiderman, and Barrett Dekker. Named after two of my favorite singers, Dickey Barrett and Aaron Barrett and the legendary Desmond Dekker.

My concept for a ninja themed Batman costume. The batarangs fold in half and attach to the forearms.

A bad green lantern design with a self portrait in the back.

A Green Lantern design. Sides of hair are grey and spiked, tribute to Hal Jordan.

And here is Dickey Barrett. Taken at the OC fair, at the greatest concert in the history of the Earth. The BossTones are back in plaid, and never looked or sounded better!

All My Darkest Thoughts...

And darkest drawings!

I noticed that on this piece I did a LOT of high contrast with all the black and stuff... On the SLD piece it will be in the front left corner, so I think the deeper dark levels will look good. I think it helps it pop out more. I'm worried that it may have a little too much black versus the David piece.

Anyways!

Garrett Gallagher, So Long Davey bassist! I haven't met the guy, so I used my artists intuition based on the photos I'd seen... I think it turned out rad.

In another time, on another planet...

So I'm super freaking excited... I finally picked up a pencil again...

See, after the Grubat Commander I kinda thought "Shit, now I've got this high expectation of myself"...

WELL I STILL FREAKING DO!

I dunno, something like a year ago I found out that my best friend from second grade is in a band, and to me that's pretty exciting. I offered to do some art of each member of So Long Davey...

PREFACE: See, this cat is kinda the reason I started drawing and writing as a kid. When we were little he would always come up with some rad new character and some art for it. He'd have a clever and witty name, backstory and powers. He made short films and stop motion animation. In like, fourth grade. I always wanted to be a part of the things he did, and I grew up trying to match up to everything he did when we were kids.

I did short films in high school, I did hand drawn animation, art, writing. Even dabbled in music (Hopefully some day I'll scream in a punk band).
And here my lazy ass is, a year later, actually drawing this stuff.

David Vaughn, best friend from second grade, lead singer of So Long Davey, and the best damned drawing I've done in some time. I hope you enjoy it. Look for the other three members of the band within the next two weeks, and hopefully a neat album cover concept I want to do with it.

This is my practice for the SLD piece. My supervillain The Gut. Close arm came out kinda funny. I always wondered why there were certain niches of villains and heroes that got the short end of the stick and became like... Comic relief.

To me, The Blob was one of those characters that could have been soooo menacing. And he was reduced to being ridiculed for his weight. I mean, the amount of body fat made him practically invincible, imagine how hard he could hit with that weight!

The Gut is intended to be a PMC experiment in Super Genetics. He possesses the ability to inflate his body fat or reduce it at will. He throws a punch, BAM! Inflates his arm and hits you like a truck. You punch him? No you don't, he has a giant gut!

Don't even mention his body slam...

His whole costume is spandexy, including the boots. The metal pieces are designed to spread apart a little bit to accommodate his cankles. I'd put more metal pieces on, but I'd rather have it simple. Keep It Simple... Silly...

The fat cats have got your tongue...

Here is that inked piece of Julio that Patricio did. He never finished it, but he's a talented chap, no? The simple linework to the right was what I gave him, and he (almost) finished with the piece on the left.

I wasn't born a failure...

I worked my ass off to become one...

I never retraced this, it's still in rough stages. Please pardon the scan quality. Luigi. I love everything Nintendo makes, and I felt the need to show some love. Very rarely do I do art of a character I did not create. I should do it more often.

This one I did finish. Almost. I wanted to have Mario kicking Bowser or a Koopa or something. I like it!

Here is a much more finished version of my Rot Falke piece from a previous post. I retraced it, made it cleaner. Added a little more visible detail, most noticeably to his utility belt. I hope you like it better the second time around.

Bumpin' Like Teenage Acne...

So, for the first time in Allah-knows how long, I actually sat my ass down to draw. I feel really good about it. I know nobody reads this, but if somebody out there does... COMMENT ME!

So you remember when I posted that rad drawing Jared did of Warhowl? Well I neglected to mention that prior to that I never actually drew Warhowl. I gave Jared this crappy rough sketch, and he really helped to form the idea in my head of what Warhowl should look like. Maybe I did the collar a smidge too big, but I like this one. I didn't draw his Dust blade because I haven't decided on EXACTLY how it should look. I'll sketch it soon and post it.

THIS TOOK FREAKIN FOREVER! I hope you all damned appreciate my hard work here. Here we have the as-of-yet unnamed Green Grubat commander. On his planet there are both Green and Purple Grubat. The purple are more intellectual types, whereas these green ones are like... Conan with really big guns. The scale work took freakin forever! I hope you appreciate this work. Get your ass on the fan art.

I got two more comin' up this week of Mario and Luigi, as well as a more refined version of that Rot Falke pic I did some time ago (Really I just made the lines darker, but still).

Wear a shirt that says I bleed if you shoot me in the chestplate...

An as-of-yet unnamed Russian super hero. I liked Foxstar, but nobody else liked it so I'm not decided yet. He is intended to be a low rent version of the Patriarch. In his cold war incarnation he carried a sickle and hammer. His modern day incarnation he ditches his jetpack and fights with these rad knife gauntlets and rifles. He's more like the Punisher but... You know, evil...

A crewmember aboard the Warhowl. Zalone Lugik is the trigger happy weapons specialist. He carries a large sword with three holes for his fingers in the cross section to make the sword double as an exceptionally long punching blade. He also carries four knives, two on his back and two on his thighs. He keeps his second set of arms hidden so that his hidden strike with his back knives is a killing stroke. He also has this interesting rubber band bow and arrow thing... I'll draw it sometime.
an old drawing I did in high school of mah BOI! Anung Un Rama, AKA Hellboy. Big ol HB is one of the most consistently entertaining characters in the comics industry, and I am VERY excited for the new film. I'm gonna count how many times he says "Aw crap".

This isn't that old. Just a sketch for something I started doing some time ago. I think I'm a more talented designer now. I wanted to redesign the Mortal Kombat universe, giving the characters more story and personality. Here we have Baraka, who is a pirate in my Outworld.
And another of my zombie-hunter version of Cujo. I think this was from high school, but I can't remember. I just put it up here so I can download it when I get back to California. It sucks, but it's fun.

Another piece I did back during our Legacy Of Kain contest. Raziel, the Soul Reaver. One of my favorite video game characters ever.

A not very good sketch of a character from my Warhowl story. This is Fleet Commander Arjo Serren. I REALLY hate this sketch, so I think I have to do a fresh piece of him... This one makes me cry. It sucks even for a sketch.
